Day 2 in Beijing

It is 3:30 am on Friday morning and we have been awake for about an hour...jet lag is hard haha! We are running on adrenaline at this point I do believe.  So, what a great time to update the blog with what we did yesterday! Pictures are out of order, but oh well haha

We started the day off with a yummy breakfast with the BEST rice I have ever eaten along with other yummies including kiwi juice...yeah, that was good! We met Cindy our guide in the lobby at 9 am and we took our bus ride to our first stop. The Houtong tour, which is a look at how some of the locals live.....it was so interesting, big culture shock and just wonderful to be able to see that...we got there via Rickshaw, which is a bike with a buggy attatched, that we sat in and the driver peddled us aloing. so much fun!! We then went to the silk factory, where we took atour and saw and learned, touched and experienced how silk is made from silk worms. It was so cool!! We bought Morgan a silk quilt with a red with gold trim duvet cover and 2 pillow cases. SO SOFT!!! We also bought her a green silk sun dress, that she will fit now...plan to get more dresses when we get to Guangzhou later in the trip.  We then had some lunch, where Cindy got us and the group a private room, with a big table and the biggest lazy susan I have ever seen haha!! We had lots of different dishes, including duck, sweet and sour pork, and my favorite of the ishes an eggplant dish....do not know what they did to it to make me like it so much, because I do not do eggplant haha...but it was tasty! Let me just share that the restrooms at this place were not that great haha...but we did find a western toilet to use (there are pictures of what toilet is in the stall on the door of each stall...) but I did get a picture of a squattie  (not downloaded onthe computer yet) it was um...interesting and kind of gross...no let me re phrase that...really gross haha! Anyways, then we walked to Tienaman square and the Forbiden City.  I had no clue both of them were that big!! Cindy said we only walked thru 20% of it..and that took about 2 hours! It was beautiul, and really cool to finally be able to see it in person, after seeing it in other blogs for so long now....it rained on us most of the day, but I did no care, this was an experience we will never forget, and even tho it was cold and rainy it was still wonderful! The group and us braved crossing the street at our hotel and went to that restaurant again, which was yummy, funny and great news, patrcik got actual tea this time!! Ok, time to see if I can add pictures...

The dinners are so yummy and they serve so much just a hint about the bathrooms the dirtier they are the better the food is in the restaurant. So glad you got the tea today, patrick.
